Twice a year, the management committee shall draw up a list of people to be invited to speak at Tribuna Barcelona during the following six-month period. This programme shall be modified by the executive committee on a monthly basis as required.
The talks and discussions shall be held at the Palace (formerly Ritz) Hotel on the Monday of each week, with Thursday and Friday being reserved for any extraordinary sessions (topics currently in the news or cycles on particular themes).
Tribuna Barcelona Informal Discussions, with attendance restricted to a maximum of 25 people to facilitate in-depth discussion of certain topics, shall be held periodically at the Círculo del Liceo.
The timing for both types of event is as follows:
1.25 pm Speaker arrives
1.30 pm Apéritif
1.45 pm Lunch begins
2.10 pm Introduction of the speaker
2.15 pm Talk by the guest speaker
(Between 20 and 50 min.)
Until 3.55 pm Discussion and debate
3.55 pm Closing remarks by the President
This timetable shall be strictly adhered to.
The length of any questions addressed to the speaker shall also be tightly controlled.
The introduction of the speaker shall not last longer than seven minutes. Speakers may choose who is to introduce them. They are requested to notify the name of the person introducing them at least 30 days before the date on which they are due to speak. If a speaker does not wish to designate anyone to introduce them, T.B. shall invite an outstanding, preferably young, personality, from the university, media, business or civil society world to do it instead. In this case, the speaker shall provide a short biographical summary in good time.
Fifteen days before the date of the meeting, the speaker shall receive 25 invitations which they are free to distribute as they wish. Five days prior to the meeting, they shall send T.B. a list of the names of those invited, indicating in each case whether the person concerned is to be charged for the meal. If there is no such indication, it shall be understood that the speaker will be responsible for the charge of 4,800 pesetas per head and that he or she will be invoiced accordingly a few days later by the company catering for the event.
T.B. shall send notice of the talk to all its Founding Members, public figures and about 900 important figures. It will also advertise the event in El Periódico de Catalunya.
The speaker shall be provided with a list of the 1200 people notified of the talk.
All speakers may hand in a copy of the summary of their talk before 11 am on the day of the talk. If they do, T.B. will send it out to the media indicating that it is not for release until the talk has been given.
Tribuna Barcelona understands that giving a talk implies granting Tribuna Barcelona the right to publish the text, without prejudice to the speaker's right also to disseminate it by whatever means he or she considers most appropriate.
T.B. also reserves the right to record the talk and discussion (on cassette or video) and to distribute or broadcast the recording as it thinks fit.
T.B. also reserves the right to allow the event to be broadcast, in whole or in part, live or recorded, by any radio and/or television station.
T.B. also reserves for itself the rights to the speakers' appearances in the media during their stay in Barcelona.
T.B. intends periodically to publish the talks given or make them available on the Internet. T.B. secretary's office will use for this purpose the copy of the text or a transcribed summary of the talk.
The language used shall always be that chosen by the speaker.
It is not intended initially to provide simultaneous interpretation for talks given in English, Castilian, Catalan or French.
T.B. shall not normally be responsible for any of the speaker's expenses (fare, accommodation, etc.). However the executive committee will consider any request reaching it before the talk is announced.
The only other people at the speaker's table will be the President of T.B., the person introducing the speaker and the chairperson.
The only other people who will have a reserved place at the speaker's table are members of the royal family, the prime minister of the Spanish government, the president of the Generalitat de Catalunya (the Catalan government) and the mayor of Barcelona.
The members of the Management Committee shall take it in turns to stand in for the president and the chairperson.
Members of the Management Committee, or whoever they choose to give up their seat for, shall have a reserved table.
If any of the T.B. sessions are sponsored, the Founding Members will occupy their usual seats, but 50 places shall be reserved for the sponsor's guests and the sponsor shall also have a seat at the speaker's table.
Those attending the T.B. lunches are kindly requested not to smoke.
